What can Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol & High BMI lead to

What is Diabetes?

This short video will tell you what diabetes is.

Diabetes can lead to

  • kidney failure (2 in 3 were diabetes related)
  • stroke (1 in 2 were diabetic)
  • heart attack (2 in 5 were diabetic)
  • blindness

I found a very good guide on diabetes on HealthHub under MOH. Check it out.

What is High Blood Pressure?

This is a sample video that explains in detail what high blood pressure is and what it can cause to your body.

It’s a bit long but worth your time to watch. Really.

High blood pressure can cause

  • stroke
  • heart attack
  • kidney failure
  • damage to your blood vessels

High blood pressure is a silent killer. To find out more, I recommend reading the guide from HealthHub.

What is High Cholesterol?

I found a good video that explains LDL (bad cholesterol) and HDL (good cholesterol).

The video below shows the huge amount of fat in a patient’s blood.

A surgery was carried out to remove the fat from his arteries.

High cholesterol can cause

  • heart attack
  • stroke

What is High BMI?

How do you calculate BMI?

The formula is BMI = weight (kg) / (height x height)(m)

What is considered high BMI?

A BMI above 30 is considered high. And usually, an insurer will reject a policy application (or proposal) for someone whose BMI is above 30.

To visualise, if your height is 1.75m, your BMI is >30 if your weight is 92kg.

If your height is 1.6m, your BMI is >30 if your weight is 77kg.

Someone who has high BMI has lots of fats accumulated in the body.

It is often associated with diabetes, heart disease, cancer, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

This is a very good video on what is inside fat people.

Insurance Coverage for 4 Highs

People with the 4 highs often need more coverage because they are much higher risk than healthy people for

  • Premature death / lower life expectancy
  • Disability in terms of loss of limbs, blindness, stroke or coma
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Cancer
  • Kidney failure
  • Blindness (for diabetes)

If you belong to this category, most likely you can’t buy insurance.

However, the good news is you can buy PruVital – specifically for this group of people like you.

It is definitely worth to get such policy because the risk of getting critically illness, death or disability is very high.

Therefore, the chance of payout is also very high. It can be used for

  • hospital bills
  • hiring a caregiver / maid
  • your spouse or loved ones to take care of you

My dad has diabetes

My dad has severe diabetes. And he’s 73 this year. He can’t buy. The age limit is 65.

And he’s rejected for Integrated Shield. These few years, his leg is painful from nerve damage.

I am really worried for him. So get this coverage while you still can. Don’t wait till condition is worsen.
